Newport
News F.C. Girls' Program
Newport News F.C. is proud to announce that the Newport News F.C.
U17 Spirit represents our commitment to having a quality girls travel
program. We are hopeful that the club will field at least one team
in each age group beginning next year. However, there are plans to
have the first girls U10 team in Newport News history ready to play
by Spring 2004.
Developmental
Academy/Advanced Recreation Program
The success of every club depends on identifying young players and
getting them the proper training they need so when they are ready
to play competitive travel soccer they will be prepared. We have made
significant improvements to the developmental program. This year the
program also includes regular season games and an end of season tournament
and will follow the United States Youth Soccer Guidelines for field
size and number of players. We believe that each of these program
improvements will greatly increase the quality of the program and
ultimately the development of each player in the program. Registration
begins August 1st and information can be found here.
Club
Team Camp
Due to the positive response for the team camp with approximately
1/2 of every team registered, the deadline for registering players
has been extended. Information about this exclusive members only camp
was sent out last month and can also be found here.
If you are unsure if your child can attend, please let us know. We
will also be able to accommodate last minute registrations and will
have a limited number of extra t-shirts available for those who's
players did not pre-register.
Note: Because of the feedback we received about this camp,
future club camps will be held earlier in the summer.
Tournaments/Fundraising
Every successful club has a revenue source. We have researched the
alternatives and determined that instead of "bingo", which
would require a significant ongoing commitment from our membership,
we will host two sanctioned tournaments each year. During each tournament,
we will need each team to provide approximately 26 hours of volunteering.
Basically, we need at least 13 parents from each team working about
2 hours each. In return for each of our teams' volunteer work, our
club (unlike others) will waive the $450.00 entry fee for each team
to participate in the tournament. Each team will also be allowed to
operate a concession site at the field site they manage. This will
enable each team to raise approximately $500.00 during the course
of that weekend and this revenue may be used at the team's discretion.
Also, as the host club, our teams will get preferential treatment
in scheduling. Again, this is by far the best possible way for our
club to raise money and is consistent with other established clubs
that use this fundraising method. At this point we have submitted
the necessary paperwork to host two tournaments. They are:
The Colonial Virginia Shootout - November 8th and 9th, 2003
The Colonial Virginia Championships - March 13th and 14th, 2004
Once the paperwork is finalized the information will be put on the
club website. Also, we anticipate the need for a volunteer coordinator
for each team. We also anticipate arranging the tournament game schedule
in a manner that will allow parents the chance to view your team's
games.
