If you have questions, please contact our Director of Coaching at
DOC@newportnewsfc.com.
What if I miss tryouts?
The club has scheduled make up days if you are unavailable to make the regularly scheduled day.
However, if you are planning on trying out for a team and can't make the first tryout date you
MUST notify our Director at
DOC@newportnewsfc.com.
Players who wish to join during the season or who are new to the area, should contact the Director of Coaching at
DOC@newportnewsfc.com to schedule an individual tryout.
The Tryout

All players are
required to tryout each year.
-
Team placements
for U10-U14 teams are for both Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 seasons. No refunds given once rosters are set.
-
All U15-U19 teams
play in the Fall only.
-
All players should

-
All
parents/players will be notified by email by June 3, 2008 of Team Placement. Upon acceptance for team placement all players will be
required to make a non-refundable deposit/first installment to secure roster position
by June 5, 2008.
Click here to make online payment to accept roster place.
(Check the payment groups carefully to insure you choose the
appropriate deposit for your player's age group.)
-
Player evaluations
are done by committee, however, the head coach of each age group
and the Director of Coaching make final team placement
decisions.
What to expect after Tryouts
Whether or not your child is selected for a team, you will receive communication from the club
by June 9, 2008. If your child is selected to join a team you will be contacted next by your team's coach or manager and given details about attending your team's organization meeting. Generally these meetings are held by July 1st.
This year, all players will need to order new uniforms through your
team managers to assure you have them by the start of the season. (You can find out what numbers are available from your coach or manager.)
At the team meeting, every team should discuss the calendar and every coach will provide the opportunity for parents to learn about their expectations and goals for the teams and players. Also, as a member of Newport News FC every player is eligible to attend our member's only
Champions Camp Team Camp which will be held the week of July 23. All U15-U18 players are eligible to attend our
Advanced Team Camp held the week of July 30th from 5PM-8PM at Riverview Farm Park. Information about this camp
program will be sent out to you after tryouts and all players are recommended to attend. Most teams begin regular practices
by the second week of August and league games will begin by the second week of September. In August, every club team will
participate in the Busch Gardens Soccer Classic (the local
tournament hosted by NNFC). All players will be notified by email
within a week of tryouts of team or program placement status.
Determining your child's age group
The following age groups will be used for the 2008-2009 Season:
- U19 - Players born 8/1/89 and younger
- U18 - Players born 8/1/90 and younger
- U17 - Players born 8/1/91 and younger
- U16 - Players born 8/1/92 and younger
- U15 - Players born 8/1/93 and younger
- U14 - Players born 8/1/94 and younger
- U13 - Players born 8/1/95 and younger
- U12 - Players born 8/1/96 and younger
- U11 - Players born 8/1/97 and younger
- U10 - Players born 8/1/98 and younger
- U09 - Players born 8/1/99 and younger
Age Groups Made Easier
If you are unsure of what age group to register your child for here is another way to figure it out. If your child is nine now and will not turn ten until after August 1, they are considered an Under 10 (U10). This method can be used for any age group. In the previous example if they turned 10 July 31, they would be considered a U11 player.
