"The Best Is Yet To Come"

Welcome to your Club. With the inaugural season for Newport News F.C. about to become a reality, I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Newport News F.C. soccer family and to kick off our first issue of Center Circle, our quarterly newsletter that will keep our members informed.

As the Club's first President and a proud soccer dad, I only want what is best for my sons and all the Club's players and parents. Consequently, we are working every day to ensure that Newport News F.C. offers a consistent, high quality and professionally managed soccer experience to each member for many years to come.

I am extremely pleased with the progress our Club has made in such a short time and I am equally proud that so many parents are sharing in our vision to keep travel soccer in Newport News. In our first season we are fielding eight teams including an all-girls team, which may be a first for Newport News. The Club plays in two leagues from U10 thru U17 and we are offering a Developmental Academy for players U6, U7, U8 and U9 starting in mid-August. Finally, we are planning to host an outdoor tournament, which would be another first for Newport News. You should hear more about this soon. Another major accomplishment was the partnership with Adidas who is now our official Club sponsor. Another first for a Newport News soccer club, this good fortune arose directly from the tireless efforts of our Director of Coaching, Al Cousineau, who negotiated with and obtained a great relationship that opens many doors for our players.

A soccer club's core is its coaches and we recruited a wonderful group of coaches who are licensed, experienced and have great credentials. The coaches also strongly support a unified approach to teaching fundamentals, and individual and team skills.

I would like to thank those who have supported and partnered with us as we started the Club. We have a great slate of officers, with whom I am proud to serve, and we have gotten great support from Jeff Sykes and the City of Newport News Parks and Recreation Department.

For the parents we expect to improve communciations from what other clubs may have offered. We also want an open door policy. While we cannot promise that every request can be granted or every complaint resolved to your satisfaction, we will promise to listen and take considered action after deliberation. Also, some of our Club's decisions will be guided by a group of coaches, known as the Club Advisory Board or CAB. We want to place the soccer program in the hands of our most experienced and dedicated members, our coaches. We think all our players and parents will benefit from this move.

Although there have been many changes in the youth soccer landscape during the past year, some things stay the same. To have a successful soccer club requires quality coaches, quality players, committed parents, daily professional management, and (most importantly) a club that offers a complete soccer vision. Without a plan you never get where you are going. Our Club has a plan and we are well on the road to obtaining many of our goals. Although we will never be able to please everyone, I am confident that Newport News F.C., will become the club of choice on the Peninsula; a place for our players to learn, grow and have fun !!

I look forward to working with and meeting you and your children as we move through our first year.

See you on field,

Steve A. Meade, President
Newport News F.C.
