On August 28 and 29, nearly 35 teams competed for the right to be called Tournament Champions. Overall, the Busch Gardens Soccer Classic was very well attended with teams participating from as far away as Delaware and Canada. The tournament was praised by many visiting teams who promised to return next year. Adding to the memories, many teams took advantage of the exclusive 3 day bounce pass offered by Busch Gardens as part of the tournament sponsorship package, making it even more memorable.

Parents Matter by Anne Harrison-Harris, U10 Predators Manager

Parental Sideline Etiquette

DO NOT:

  • . . . moan, groan, sigh, etc. if play is not going perfectly. Such sounds can hurt the feelings of parents and players.

  • . . . yell instructions to the players. What you yell may conflict with what the coaches have told them.

  • . . . speak ugly about/or to players from the opposing teams. We must trust that the referee will control filed behavior and play.

DO:

  • Offer words of encouragement . . . nice try, way to hustle, you can do it . . .

  • Compliment good play . . . great pass, great shot, nice teamwork, great save, well done . . .

Remember, no one wants to play well and win more than the players on the team. If they are giving 100%, then that must be enough for the parents.
